Greg Torrington

Greg Torrington has been involved in a wide spectrum of music genres and the music business throughout his life. Former management client, Colin Linden, called Greg a “Music biz lifer”.

Greg managed a full service record store and performed live in Ottawa Valley country bands in the ‘70s. His first foray into broadcasting came at Carleton University radio station, CKCU. That involvement opened the door for his full-time on-air work at Ottawa’s then independent/progressive radio powerhouse, CHEZ-FM when it signed on in 1977. Greg was promoted to the station’s Music Director in 1980 and remained in that position for a decade. He was awarded Music Director of the Year at the first Canadian Music Week industry awards, and is credited for being the first to break many prominent Canadian and international recording artists.

Warner Music Canada hired Greg as A&R Manager in 1990 where he scouted and brought in potential new talent signings to the label, as well as coordinating recordings and videos with the domestic roster. At Warner, Greg worked on projects for many of the country’s top artists (such as Loreena McKennitt, Blue Rodeo, George Fox, Spirit of the West, Trooper, etc.) served on FACTOR juries and the Juno Awards talent committee as well as participating in music evaluation sessions and panels at numerous regional industry conferences across Canada.

Since his departure from Warner, Greg ventured into artist consulting and personal management, and became an on-going contributor and columnist for the national music publication, Muzik Etc. In 2000, he teamed with the late Doug Kirby to work artist management, and served as A&R consultant / marketing and data manager at Kirby’s booking agency, LiveTourArtists.

When not working with music, Greg’s spare time is devoted to listening to music and partaking in numerous festivals across the country. He also enjoys fine cuisine, cycling, and expanding his knowledge of wine, film and computers.
